First aid skills fade over time, and confidence can drop without regular practice. Our Annual First Aid Refresher course is designed to keep qualified first aiders confident, up to date, and ready to respond effectively in an emergency.
This short, practical session is ideal for anyone who has completed a First Aid at Work (FAW) or Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification and wants to refresh their essential lifesaving skills between requalification courses.
This 3-hour practical refresher session meets the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recommendation for annual first aid skills updates. Delivered by an experienced trainer with an emergency services background, this session focuses on building confidence through realistic, hands-on scenarios and guided feedback.

Learner Support
OJ Training is committed to an inclusive learning environment. If you have any specific needs — such as dyslexia, hearing difficulties, or physical limitations — please let us know when booking, so we can provide appropriate support or reasonable adjustments.
All venues are accessible for learners with mobility needs — please contact us before your course if you require any special arrangements.
Training, Assessment and Certification
Our courses are taught by an instructor who has both experience in training and emergency care, enabling them to bring a real-world perspective to the course as well as being able to answer any questions students may have about their training.
Our training focuses upon Rapid Cycle Deliberate Practice (RCDP), a learning technique where learners practice a skill repeatedly in short cycles, receiving immediate feedback and making instant corrections before repeating the scenario again — all within the same session. The benefits of this learning include quicker skill improvement, confidence gained from being competent, reducing the likelihood of acquiring bad habits, which is essential in learning lifesaving skills; the technique also encourages learners to engage in teamwork activities during training.
Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a three-year qualification will be issued to the learner, subject to assessment
This refresher session does not issue a new qualification certificate but provides an attendance certificate confirming participation in an Annual First Aid Skills Update, as recommended by the HSE. Attending this refresher annually helps ensure your FAW or EFAW certificate remains valid, and skills remain sharp until renewal.
What to Bring and Wear
Learners will take part in practical CPR and recovery position activities. Please wear comfortable, practical clothing suitable for kneeling or bending. If you have any physical or mobility concerns, please contact us before booking to discuss suitable adjustments.
